Appointment as professor of Fritz Neumark to the academic chair in Istanbul
On September 21, 1933, Dr. Fritz Neumark was appointed to the University of Istanbul, three weeks after his letter of dismissal due to the so-called Aryan paragraph in the Law for the Restoration of the Professional Civil Service. With this appointment it was possible for him to start a safe and financially secure life with his family in Istanbul for the time being without transition.

Dear Professor:
On behalf of the Turkish Minister of Education, I hereby convey to you the appointment to the Chair of Social Hygiene and Statistics at the University of ISTANBUL.
I would be very grateful if you could inform me as soon as possible whether you accept the appointment. The detailed conditions are already known to you, as I may presume, through the preliminary discussions. I will send you the contract containing the conditions for your signature after your reply.
Fritz Neumark was a financial scientist who emigrated to Turkey in 1933 because of his Jewish background. He became a professor at the University of Istanbul. The document is certificate of his appointment to the chair of social hygiene and statistics. He reported on this period in 1980 in his book Zuflucht am Bosporus (Refuge on the Bosphorus), from which excerpts on specific topics of the exile are included here. In 1952 he returned to the University of Frankfurt am Main as a professor.
