The extensive library, archive, and art collections of the Leo Baeck Institute – New York | Berlin for the Study of German-Jewish History and Culture constitute one of the most important source and research collections on the centuries of Jewish life in Central Europe before the Holocaust. They also bring together a large number of voices, documents, and objects from Jews who fled the Nazi persecution from Europe and built a new life for themselves in the face of and after the Holocaust worldwide. The collections are thus essential to the We Refugees Archive. In cooperation with the LBI, we have been possible, among other things, to include in our archive the story of the flight of the Austrian Jewish Edel family from Vienna via Zagreb and Paris to the United States.
